Today the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale begins for all cardholders! My sister has Ambassador status (sounds cool, but we’re not sure what it means haha) so I was lucky enough to be able to tag along and get an extra early access to the sale.
The sale is pretty big so I’ve known this was coming up and it’s also why I specifically wanted to share my sustainability challenge before I shopped the sale.
In my last post I challenged myself not to buy anything with polyester (one of the most harmful & common synthetic fabrics to the environment and derived from petroleum oil).
I also did my best to stay away from ALL other synthetic fabrics (nylon, spandex and acrylic) and I focused on natural fabrics like: wool/cashmere, cotton, silk and linen.
Synthetic fabrics are non-biodegradable and have these little tiny things called microfibers that are in our synthetically made clothes and with each wash, these little plastic fibers make their way from the washing machine into our rivers and oceans and eventually into our bodies.
I was pretty interested to see how it would be shopping for fall items without buying anything with polyester, but luckily many great cashmere and wool options were part of the sale.
It wasn’t easy shopping 100% polyester-free. I stayed away from anything too trendy and tried to only select fall (since most items are new fall pieces marked down for the sale) staples that are versatile and classic. I also mixed and matched some of the new sale items I bought with pieces I already own (instead of buying new similar items).
Essentially, I was picking out items that would be great for a fall capsule wardrobe so I wanted the items to be as versatile as possible.
I’d say about 95% of the fabrics I picked out is free of synthetic fabrics. Two items I selected do have a small percentage of nylon mixed in and some of the items I already own have polyester in them. So I’ll link to the exact items as well as an option without polyester if I was able to find one.

LEITH LONGLINE CARDIGAN: This cardigan is easily one of favorite items from the sale. It’s great quality, extremely soft and sliming. I have a similar cardigan I got at Forever21 years ago and it’s a piece I wear all the time. I haven’t been able to find something until now and I will definitely be picking it up in one more color.
- Size: wearing XXS. This cardigan runs very big and I recommend sizing 1-2 sizes.
- Sale: $45.90, Price After Sale: $69.00
- Details: 45% rayon, 30% nylon, 20% cotton, 5% wool. This is one of the pieces that have a mix of synthetic materials in it. This cardigan was made in an ethical factory that supports women worker empowerment through HERproject. HERproject™ is a collaborative initiative that strives to empower low-income women working in global supply chains.
- Alternative: I also tried on this BP cardigan that is 100% cotton but it wasn’t as soft and I didn’t like the cut as much.
Also wearing: H&M SATIN CAMI (size small, already owned | alternative silk cami option here) and AGOLDE COTTON PARKER VINTAGE SHORTS (size 23-size down, already owned and my favorite shorts!!).

HALOGEN COLORBLOCK CASHMERE WRAP: This wrap is sooo soft and I love how it can be styled as a scarf or wrap.
- Sale: $132.90, Price After Sale: $199.00
- Details:100% cashmere. This garment was made in an ethical factory that supports women worker empowerment through HERproject. HERproject™ is a collaborative initiative that strives to empower low-income women working in global supply chains.
GOOD AMERICAN GOOD LEGS JEANS [already owned]: If you’ve followed me for a while, you may have seen/heard me rave about Good American Jeans. These were my first pair that I got a couple of years ago and they are still one of my favorite jeans (I only have like 5 now and 3 are GA jeans). They are sooo soft and slimming and one of the few pants that fit me around my (tiny) ankles–which is great for tucking into booties.
- Size: 24 [TTS]
- Sale: $112.90, PriceAfter Sale: $169.00
- Details: 93% cotton, 5% polyester, 2% elastane. I looked for alternative option without polyester, but it looks like many jeans contain some percentage of polyester or other synthetic material. If I find another well fitting pair of jeans I’ll link to them. I also recommend checking out Reformation and Boyish for sustainably made jeans (even some of their jeans contain polyester but overall their process/their fabrics are better for the environment andmore sustainable).
SAM EDELMAN WELLES BOOTIES: I love these booties and the camel color! I mostly go for low heel boots/booties and these are pointy and give you just enough height to elongate your legs. After styling these booties with my different outfits, I also decided to also get these Vince Camuto booties in Tortilla Suede since a lighter tan boot would also be a nice option to have.
- Size: 8 [fits TTS]
- Sale: $99.90, Price After Sale: $159.95
BRIXTON JOANNA III WOOL FELT HAT: This hat is soo popular it looks like there’s only size color and size left in stock! They sometimes restock items so keep an eye out or check your local store to see if they have in them in stock!
- Sale: $58.90, Price After Sale: $88.00
Also wearing: Topshop ribbed top [sold out, but similar Halogen ribbed top on sale here] and Tory Burch Robinson Bag. I am a huge fan of Tory Burch bags because the quality is always great and there are so many classic designs to choose from. I specifically choose a laptop purse since I always carry my laptop around with me, but if you are looking for a smaller, similar one, I also suggest this smaller version and this one which is part of the sale.

VINCE SLIM FITTED STRETCH SILK BLOUSE: I can’t get enough of this rust/spice color for fall! I have two Theory silk blouses that I bought years ago for work, and they’ve ended up being a couple of my favorite wardrobe staples that I’ve constantly styled over the years. A quality silk blouse is definitely the investment, and I will admit this one is still a bit pricey and I’m still debating on keeping this. I was able to get my silk Theory shirts from their outlet store and they were marked down to $100. I also recommend buying second hand if you want to get an even better deal! (I’m pretty sure this is the Theory one I have and someone is selling an XS for $30!).
- Sale: $183.90, Price After Sale: $275.00
- Details: 92% silk, 8% elastane
