5 Books to Read That Will Change The Way You Live

One of my goals this year is to read more. I’ve always loved reading but over time I’ve consumed my time more with social media and t.v rather than reading. But this year, I’ve set an ambitious goal of reading one book a week.

If you have goals you are looking to accomplish in 2020, or changes you are looking to make in your life, these five books will help change your life for the better.

  1. “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” by Marie Kondo

You’ve probably heard of Marie Kondo by now, and for a good reason. Marie Kondo is a #1 New York Times Bestseller, has her own Netflix show Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and her book was named one of CNN’s Most Influential Books of the Decade.

I first read this book years ago and it’s one I recommend to everyone. Marie Kondo takes on a new approach to cleaning and decluttering your home (and in a sense–your life). This book helps you understand what it means to declutter and what it takes to keep it that way. It’s one of those books that will change your life for the better and truly “spark joy”. (I’ve listed this book first because I believe you need an organized space to help you declutter your mind.)

2. “Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less” by Greg McKeown

I “borrowed” this book from my sister years ago (I promise I’ll give it back sis!) and I finally started reading it (and I’m loving it!). This past year I began to feel that I was stretching myself thin. I was being pulled in too many directions and thus I was not as productive with my time as I could have been.

This book helps you focus on only the essential things in life so you can channel your energy and time where it matters most. A motto of the book is “less but better”–and this a motto I’m taking on for 2020.

3. “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life” by Mark Manson

Sometimes to get things done and move forward in life, you have to change your mindset. This book is a refreshing, honest take on how to do that. A #1 New York Times Bestseller and over 6 million copies sold, this is a highly recommend self-help book to get you to embrace your fears and live your best life.

4. “Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!” by Robert T. Kiyosaki

One of the single most important things you can do in life is to have control of your personal finances, and there’s no better time to start than now. This book was released over 20 years and has since become the #1 Personal Finance book of all time.

5. “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change” by Stephan R. Covey

A classic, this is another New York Times Bestseller and named the #1 Most Influential Book of the Twentieth Century. I’ve seen this book on my parent’s bookshelves since I was a child and I can’t believe I’ve never read it–but it’s next on my reading list!

[…] why you may have failed in the past. I thought this was a great podcast and in a way reminded me of Marie Kondo’s book about the art of tidying up. In her book she talks about us being told to clean our room as kids, but often we are not taught […]
