My Review of Everlane
I’ve heard so many great things about Everlane (and seen so many great pieces) that I’ve been wanting to try out the brand for a long time.
As I’ve been on the search for the best classic, sustainable and ethical pieces to recommend to you, I knew I had to try them out. They have become extremely popular as a retailer for their focus on ‘radical transparency’ (as they refer to it) sharing the true cost of their items, partnering with ethical factories (and allowing you to see the factories as well) and focusing on sourcing both sustainable & high- quality materials-.
I would like to note that Good On You, a site that gives retail brands a sustainable/ethical review, rated Everlane Not Good Enough for their lack of transparency in some areas.
As I mentioned in previous posts, there is no retailer who is going to be completely sustainable or “perfect” in all areas. It will be up to you as a consumer to decide what is most important to you. And it is important that companies strive to continually improve in their sustainability practices and impact on the planet.
That being said, based on the the selection, style, quality and pricing, I personally think Everlane is one of the best (if not the best) option for classic and quality pieces.
Everlane is your wardrobe essentials heaven. They don’t really offer any trendy pieces, rather they stick to quality, classic pieces. Some of their pieces are too little boxy for my personal style, so I focused on selecting pieces that would look best on my petite 5’4” frame. Here is what I ordered (keep in mind that I ordered a LOT to give a thorough review):
My Review of the Items I Ordered
The High-Rise Skinny Jean: I was interested to see if these jeans would live up to all the hype I had been hearing about online. Well…they have an amazing fit and cut to them, they are made in ‘the world’s cleanest denim factory‘ AND they are only $68?! It’s going to be hard to beat these jeans.
I ordered both the Medium Blue and Bone wash and I slightly prefer the Bone over the Medium Blue. I have been in search of the perfect white jeans and I finally found them (and I actually like how these are off-white)! The Bone wash jeans fit a little more relaxed on me than the blue ones, which I like. The material isn’t as soft as I hoped they would be (as compared to my favorite Levi’s and AGOLDE jeans), and I wish the Medium Blue jean material was slightly thicker. But because the material is thinner, it gives you more of a complimentary/thinning shape. Overall, definitely a recommended buy!
COTTON BOX-CUT TEE: At 2 for $30 (or $18 a tee) you can’t beat this tee. This box-cut tee is a little short (and boxier) of a cut and I love the tee paired with high-waisted jeans. I am also going to try their Cotton Crew for a classic tee fit.
DRAPE TRENCH COAT: This is great classic trench coat that will be used for years to come. It looks exactly as pictured online. Being on the shorter/petite side, I did feel like even the XS was slightly too large for me and the coat swallowed me a bit. I think the XXS would fit a little better.
LIGHTWEIGHT FLANNEL OVERSIZED SHIRT: This is a very oversized button up but oh so soft and silky. If I had to pick one (socially acceptable) uniform to live in for the rest of my life (aka not my robe & pjs lol) it would be a relaxed button up with jeans. I’ll be living in this shirt all summer long (and it’s basically as comfy as pjs!).
The Soft Cotton Square Crew: I was not expecting much from this sweater but it is so soft and one of my favorite items from my purchase! I’ve already worn it two days in a row. This will definitely be one of your go-to items you grab and it pairs so well with the bone high-rise jeans!
THE BOSS FLAT: This is a beautiful flat made from 100% Italian leather. It has a great fit, the quality is amazing and it is a perfect flat to wear to the office. However, it is a bit stiff and I wish it was made with buttery soft leather in the inside and had better traction. It has no grip on the bottom and I almost slipped on my hardwood floors where some water was spilt!
THE CASHMERE CREW: This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL classic cashmere crew-neck sweater made from Grade A cashmere (meaning less pilling!) and it comes in so many color options! I love the camel color and also bought it in black (of course!).
THE CASHMERE TURTLENECK DRESS: I remember seeing a style blogger post about this dress last year stating it was the “perfect sweater dress” and I thought “doubtful” (don’t ask me why I questioned this LOL). But OH WAS I WRONG. This really is *the* perfect sweater dress. It is not cheap at $165 but it full cashmere dress after-all. It is soft, beautiful and hits at the perfect length to pair with a coat and knee-high or over the knee boots for an easy–and comfy–chic look.
THE DAY LOAFER: I love this loafer because it’s polished enough to wear to the office yet casual enough to be dressed down for every day wear. The caramel color is a perfect tan and looks great with both blue and white jeans. They are a very complimentary, classic style and the tan color helps elongate the look of your legs since it blends well your skin. I would also recommend the black ones to pair with trousers for the office!
THE DOUBLE-GAUZE RELAXED SHIRT: Again, I can’t pass up a classic button-up and I purchased this one in white. It’s perfect to pair with jeans or wear to the office for a more relaxed button-up shirt [see how I styled a white button-up 5 ways in this post].
The Italian ReWool Overcoat: This is a beautiful, quality & warm coat made from 100% recycled fabrics (62% Recycled Wool 38% Recycled Nylon). This by far looks much more luxurious than all my other coats I own. It is not cheap at $298, but not expensive for the quality either. It is perfect for layering, but I wish it was more of a straight fit rather than a slightly rounded/boucle silhouette. I’ve seen many European style bloggers I follow wear coats with this type of cut however and I never thought it looked bulky. If you live somewhere with really cold winters, I think this would be especially perfect for you because you can layer so well with this coat! [Update: I absolutely LOVEE this coat! I’ve styled it in this post here and here plus a bunch more on my Instagram]
