I can’t believe it’s already September — the summer months flew by so quickly! I live in California and luckily, we still have some warm weather throughout September, but I am starting to see a difference in the weather. As we move into the fall, I wanted to share 12 transitional fall outfit ideas for all occasions that you can easily put together without having to completely pull out your fall wardrobe.

Transitional Fall Outfit Ideas
Outfit #1: A Pair of Dark Blue Wash Jeans
It’s time to start pulling out your dark wash jeans for fall! I got these pv wide leg jeans from Madewell last year and saw that they just restocked it in a similar wash.

Outfit 2: A Light Layer
In California, it still stays comfortably warm enough where we don’t have to pull out our long coats to wear during the day. A light layer is really all you need – like a shacket.

Outfit 3: A Cashmere Sweater or Warm Knit Fabric
This striped cashmere sweater below from Reformation is my favorite for fall. It’s such a classic style of a sweater that can last you years and keeps you warm. For a neutral look, I like pairing it with some off-white colored jeans and brown accessories.

Outfit 4: Chocolate Brown Accents
Three things from your summer wardrobe you can pull out to style for a transitional fall look: a tank, your favorite pair of jeans, and some heeled [or non-heeled] sandals. Go for some trending fall colors, like chocolate brown.

Outfit 5: A Long Sleeve + Scarf
For those slightly colder days coming ahead, I switch up a tank or tee with a long sleeve and then add a scarf for some extra warmth. Once it’s colder, I like to layer up with a long coat.

Outfit 6: A Leather Jacket

Outfit 7: A Sweater Vest
Sweater vests have been trending this year. Instead of sticking to your linen vest, you can switch to a sweater vest which will be a little warmer for fall.

A monochromatic look never fails — especially with a trending color like chocolate brown. It makes any outfit look instantly chic.

Incorporating some summer and fall colors is an easy way to put together a transitional fall outfit like the one below. You can combine a colorful tank and add on a darker shade of brown for the perfect balance of a summer to fall look.
