Essential Spring Pieces to Pack for Your Next Trip

spring travel outfit guide

Planning a spring getaway and need some outfit ideas? Today, I’m sharing some essential spring pieces to pack for your neck trip featuring some of my most-worn items from past trips and how they’re essentials pieces when it comes to packing. Whether you’re heading to Japan, New York, or anywhere in between, you’ll find a range of outfits to help you pack smart and stylish for your trip.

Spring Travel Essentials

A Trench Coat

Compared to the heavier outer layers of fall and winter, a trench coat is the perfect go-to for the transitional weather. It’s lightweight, breathable, and often made with waterproof materials—ideal for those unpredictable rainy days. Plus, its timeless, sleek design adds an effortlessly chic touch to any outfit. 😉

Comfortable Sneakers

This might be a given, but I can’t emphasize enough how essential a pair of comfortable sneakers is for travel—no matter the season. When you’re on the move, especially traveling from the airport to your destination where you’ll likely find yourself walking more than usual. You’ll want a shoe that’s not only easy to slip on but also comfortable enough for all-day wear. Bonus points if it’s versatile enough to pair with just about any outfit! For other spring shoes, I’d recommend some waterproof boots and flats.

Ankle-length Jeans [aka Crop Jeans]

Ankle-length jeans are an absolute must-have for spring travel. They’re the perfect balance between comfort and style, offering just the right amount of coverage without feeling too heavy or hot as the weather warms up. Whether you’re strolling through a city or navigating the airport, ankle-length jeans are versatile enough to pair with sneakers, sandals, or even boots. They transition seamlessly from day to night and can be dressed up or down, making them an essential piece for your spring wardrobe on the go.

Smart Layering

Smart layering is very important for spring travel. The weather can be all over the place, so having a few easy layers to throw on or take off is a lifesaver. Start with a comfy t-shirt or long-sleeve as your base, then add a lightweight sweater. Your favorite jacket or trench coat for cooler days and the best part? Smart layering keeps you comfy and ready for anything, while still looking put together no matter what. Perfect for spring trips!

A Cardigan

You can easily throw a cardigan over a t-shirt or dress when there’s a chill in the air, or pack it up when the sun comes out. Plus, it’s easy to dress up or down, making it the perfect piece for both casual sightseeing and evening dinners.

Avoid One-Time Wear Items

We all want to look our best in travel photos, but that doesn’t mean you need to pack your entire wardrobe. Instead, focus on versatile pieces that can work for any occasion, and elevate your looks with a few stylish accessories. This way, you can pack light, wear everything you bring, and still have room for a couple of extra souvenirs to take home. 😝 You can check out my jewelry and accessories line for some pieces to use on your next trip!

A Neutral Color

Neutral colors are a must for spring travel because they’re versatile and easy to mix and match. Shades like beige, white, gray, and navy can be dressed up or down, making them perfect for any occasion. Plus, they pair well with almost anything so you can create different looks without overpacking. For spring, you can add seasonal colors like pastels. Keeping your wardrobe neutral makes packing a breeze and make sure you look stylish for those photos.

An Oversized Wool or Cashmere Coat

An oversized wool or cashmere coat is a total must-have for spring travel. It’s perfect for those chilly mornings or evenings when you need something cozy but still stylish. The relaxed fit makes it easy to throw over any outfit, and the soft, warm material keeps you comfy without feeling bulky. Plus, it’s super versatile—dress it up or down depending on the vibe, and you’ll be ready for whatever spring weather throws your way.

A Matching Set

A matching set is a total game-changer for spring travel. It’s super comfy for long flights or train rides, but still looks cute and put-together. You can wear it while lounging at the hotel or out for a chill walk around town. Plus, it’s easy to mix and match with other stuff, so it’s a no-brainer for packing light and staying comfy all trip long. My favorite matching sets are from Varley — they’re like BUTTER, so soft!
